Korea EUREKA Day 2015: New Korean-Danish collaborations

26.05.2015  06:39

The last couple of days the Innovation Centre Denmark in Seoul have had the pleasure of a Danish delegation consisting of six companies and organisations participating in Korea EUREKA Day 2015 in Seoul. The event was organised by Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT). The overall aim for Korea EUREKA Day is to give European companies the opportunity to find Korean partners for joint development projects funded by EUREKA or Eurostars.
The main theme for this year’s Korea EUREKA Day was “Global Innovation for Societal Challenges” supported by the four sub-themes were: IT and convenient life, Health and society into action, Safe and secure societies of tomorrow and Sustainable living for a greener future.

Danish companies participated in a total of 32 one-to-one matchmakings with potential Korean partners. Some of the Danish companies also used the days before and during Korea EUREKA Day to visit other Korean research institutes, universities and companies and to discuss future cooperation.
The initial response from the Danish delegation was very positive and we expect 2-4 joint Korean/Denmark applications as a direct result of the tour to Korea.

The EUREKA network support market-oriented R&D and innovation projects by industry, research centres and universities across all technological sectors. Since 1985 the EUREKA network has supported more than 5.700 projects where more than 26.000 organisations have been involved. In total there has been more than €36 billion in public-private funding. The network is driven primarily by SMEs (44% of the organisations).
Korea joined the EUREKA Network in June 2009. Since then the Koreans have been involved in 55 projects with participation from 84 organisations. Eurostar is a sub-programme under EUREKA specially focusing on SMEs.
