Danish Brazilian Cooperation In Wastewater Solutions

22.06.2017  15:19

A group of technical staff from Brazil's largest water utility SABESP is in Denmark this week - per invitation of peer company BIOFOS from Copenhagen - to have a second round visit to different wastewater installations and operations. This visit is part of the cooperation between BIOFOS and SABESP initiated in 2016, through the support of the Innovation Centre Denmark in São Paulo.

Last year, both parties visited each other's installations to exchange knowledge and benchmark for Sludge to Energy projects - special emphasis was placed on the upcoming flagship W2E project Barueri Plant in São Paulo. Now the focus is to discuss further areas of knowledge transfer and technical cooperation. The SABESP staff will spend this week on visits to BIOFOS' installations and with workshops with their staff on the subjects of: Automation of Treatment Plants and Integration of Operations; Management of assets and plant maintenance; Resource recovery from wastewater and sludge and final uses of Biogas. Both companies expect to continue setting the foundation for extended cooperation.

Brazil's water sector faces persistent challenges for the universalization of sanitation services, low efficiency of the processes and scarce financing. While SABESP perform well in this scenario and it's a reference in the country, the company constantly invests in innovation and training of their staff through international benchmarks to use the economy of resources as a tool for growth. The cooperation with BIOFOS focused on Wastewater Treatment represents an important aspect of their plans to increase operational efficiency.

On Friday, 23'rd of June, between 10-12 am, Innovation Centre Denmark will host an information meeting at Eigtveds Parkhus (Asiatisk Plads 2, 1448 KBH K) - aimed at Danish businesses - where SABESP will present feedback from their findings from the technical visit and present their plans for technological development. Participation is free for everybody interested and the space in limited to 20 participants. To register and confirm presence please send an email to Rafael Otero at rafote@um.dk.
